All the outposts were constructed after the settlement of the Reign of Italy and their erection filled a twenty – year period, since 1870 till 1890.
The aim was to obstruct the road towards the Piemonte and the Po valley in case of war.
This kind of Maginot Line was instead used as quartering of soldiers and dump.
The major outpost is the Central Fort, built along the Road 28.
The central outpost can be visited in summer.
